A Conversation with Denise Matthews

00:0000:00

If you were an 80s baby like I was, you remember Vanity. It was all about her exotic looks, charming personality, and provocative lyrics that remained in heavy rotation on R&B and pop radio. From 1982 to 1987, you could not turn on your radio or TV without seeing the persona that was Vanity. I was a huge fan of the classic 1985 film The Last Dragon in which Vanity, as the character Laura Charles, stole my heart. I had Vanity's posters on my wall and had her albums and considered myself a true admirer until she all but disappeared in the early 90s. When she did resurface, it was as Denise Matthews: Evangelist and through with the persona of Vanity and everything associated with the name.

For the past two decades, Denise Matthews has made her presence known as someone who has literally been to hell and back and lived to tell about it. Here on The Soul Brother Show, Denise sits down to talk about her career, her downfall, and her redemption. A soundtrack featuring some gospel favorites rounds out this special presentation of this gospeldelic podcast. You're in for a knee-slapping, toe-tapping, soul-stirring, spirit-filled, rock-and-soul baptism right here on The Soul Brother Show! This special presentation of The Soul Brother Show has been brought to you in part by Tim Dillinger, who has dropped an amazing EP entitled Gospel.
