What's happening, my friend? You're in the mix with Mr. Chris on an EPIC podcast of The Soul Brother Show - The Home of Heavy Soul and Raw Funk! On August 16, 2012, I had the privilege and the honor of spending time with a true rock and roll pioneer, Mr. Grady Gaines of the Texas Upsetters. Long before Motown's the Funk Brothers and the Stax Records house band, there were the Upsetters, a band from Houston, Texas who would eventually become the back-up band to the Originator, the Emancipator, the true King of Rock and Roll, Little Richard. Mr. Gaines would make his way into the musical history books by being the right hand man to Little Richard, who changed the landscape of rock and roll music in the 1950s with his flamboyant lifestyle and outrageous lyrics. After Little Richard's "retirement" in 1957, Mr. Gaines and the Upsetters would continue their journey backing legendary entertainers such as Little Willie John, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and Sam Cooke. Listen as Mr. Gaines talks in depth about his career, the entertainers he has worked with, and his thoughts on the history of rock and roll music and culture. Trust me when I say that this conversation breaks it down and will leave you astounded! Rounding out this podcast is a history lesson of music from the architects of rock and roll. As always, sit back, relax, and enjoy!
