Hip-Hop History 101 with MC Sha Rock

Before Salt N' Pepa, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill, Lil' Kim, and Nicki Minaj there was MC Sha Rock. As an original member of the legendary hip-hop group Funky Four + 1, MC Sha Rock is the quintessential first female emcee to rock the mic. With classic cuts such as "That's the Joint," "Rappin' and Rockin' the House," and "Feel It (The Mexican)" the group was the first ever hip-hop group to appear on national television in (Saturday Night Live) 1981. On this episode of The Soul Brother Show - The Home of Heavy Soul and Raw Funk, the luminary icon talks about the beginnings of hip-hop culture, going toe-to-toe with the Furious Five, her status as a pioneer, and her thoughts on the state of today's female emcee. Class is in session.

The Soul Brother Show - The Home of Heavy Soul and Raw Funk is now live and direct every Friday night from 8-10pm CST on KPFT 90.1 FM. Listen here: and click the HD3 stream.
