About Mr. Chris

I love music. I wish there was another word that could describe my sincere passion for any and everything music. Let my mother tell it, my first words were not spoken; they were sung. She said one day she was driving when she heard her infant son in the backseat singing along to Rod Stewart's "Tonight's the Night" and that began my love affair with music. Growing up, I would take album covers and study the liner notes from start to finish. I got familiar with different musicians such as Paulinho Da Costa, Jerry Hey, Louis Johnson, Ray Parker Jr, and too many greats to name. I didn't care what genre it was as long as it moved me and resonated through my soul. When I was ten years old, I got a Michael Jackson Cordless Electronic Microphone and would transmit my voice through my boombox and learned how to make cassette tapes of myself pretending to be a radio personality. My love affair with music only intensified as I got older and I tried to collect as much music as I could as I studied the great producers such as Quincy Jones, Brian Wilson, and George Martin to name a few.

After high school graduation, I moved to San Antonio and found my way to KSJL-96.1 FM as a board operator and KSYM 90.1 as an on-air personality. One of the highlights was meeting both the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. When I came back to Houston, I hit the spoken word scene for several years until 2006 when my wife and I created SOBO Magazine. Short for Soulful Bohemian, this was a publication geared towards independent musicians as we interviewed many artists such as Eric Roberson, Mint Condition, Kelli Sae, and Omar to music legends Nona Hendryx, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and Dawn Silva from the Brides of Funkenstein. In 2010, SOBO Magazine ceased publication and I took the time to kick back and spend quality time with my family.

In 2012, I reached out to my good friend Susaye Greene of the Supremes and asked her to be my first guest on the premiere podcast of The Soul Brother Show. From there the show was kicked into the stratosphere and and is now moving full speed ahead! Let it be known that I love what I do and I do what I love and that's share my passion of music with like-minded individuals from all over the world.
